Kala Yatra Artist Collective. Kalā Yātrā means 'art journey.' The collective prioritizes not only your artistic endeavors but also the relationships and collaborations that may emerge, helping you explore Nepal’s contemporary art scene.

Applications are open for the Kala Yatra Artist Residency.

In this Kathmandu-based residency, artists benefit from a supportive community and valuable resources. The program offers year-round flexibility, inviting creatives to explore Nepal’s cultural diversity and geography while forging meaningful connections.

Multidisciplinary (Visual Artists, Painters, Sculptors, Ceramists, Printmakers, Performing Artists, Musicians, Writers, New Media Artists, Curators, Filmmakers, Theater Artists, Architects, Art Critics, Researchers, etc.).

Eligibility:

  • Who: Open to artists of all nationalities and disciplines.
  • Funding Expectation: This is an artist-led, completely self-funded residency. Kala Yatra strictly DOES NOT provide air tickets, daily food, local transportation, art supplies, SIM cards, personal visa assistance, or health insurance (artists are strongly advised to arrange their own health insurance).
  • Tech Requirement: The residency does not provide laptops or specialized studio equipment beyond basic provisions. Artists MUST bring their own laptops.
  • SAARC Discount Rule: To qualify for the reduced SAARC fee, the artist must be BOTH a resident AND a citizen of a SAARC country (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka).

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Workspace & Accommodation: Private bedrooms (with linens), a private or shared WC (depending on booking), a shared kitchen with essential cooking amenities, and a common working space.
  • Utilities & Services: WiFi, solar thermal hot water, weekly housekeeping (dusting, sheets, and restroom cleaning), and a digital guide book. (Note: Airport pick-up/drop-off is available on request for an extra cost).
  • Professional Support: Networking opportunities, assistance navigating local galleries and studios, and opportunities for exhibitions and artist talks at Kala Yatra and partner institutions.

Application Fee & Program Costs:

  • Application Fee: None.
  • Standard Residency Fee: €200 (for 2 weeks / 14 days) OR €400 (for 1 month / 30 days).
  • SAARC Discounted Fee: €300 (for 1 month / 30 days).

Application Requirements:

Artists must submit the following materials via email:

  1. Artist statement.
  2. CV/Bio and Portfolio/Website Link.
  3. Recent works (maximum of 10 images in a single PDF format).
  4. A copy of a valid Passport and the completed Application form.
