This open call invites creative artists—specifically cultural workers—from the Canton of St. Gallen (and, for the Rome residency, also from Graubünden) to apply for studio apartment residencies. The program is organized on a two‐year cycle with different offerings depending on whether the year is odd or even:
  • Odd-Numbered Years (e.g., 2025):
    • Rome: Three residencies
    • Berlin: One residency (the Berlin studio is provided by the Principality of Liechtenstein for artists from St. Gallen)
  • Even-Numbered Years (e.g., 2026):
    • Rome: Two residencies
Each studio stay lasts three months, during which artists receive a living expense grant totaling CHF 9,000 (distributed as CHF 3,000 per month).

Eligibility:
  • For Rome: Creative artists from the cantons of St. Gallen and Graubünden are eligible.
  • For Berlin: Creative artists must be residents of the Canton of St. Gallen.
  • Note: Applicants for a studio stay cannot simultaneously apply for a cantonal grant in the same year.

    • Projects should be artistically or historically convincing, independent, and feasible.
    • A clear connection to the city of Rome or Berlin—or to urban space in general—is required.
    • Additional assessment criteria include the project’s relevance, its resonance (echo), independence, and overall professionalism.
