The Printshop (LESP). The Keyholder Residency Program takes place in their shared Artists’ Studio, providing a productive atmosphere alongside other contemporary artists.
Title & Description:
Applications are open for the Keyholder Residency 2026/27.
This program offers emerging artists free 24-hour access to printmaking facilities to develop new work and foster their artistic careers. Artists from all disciplines are eligible to apply; printmaking skills are not required, though some familiarity with the medium is recommended. (Note: Basic instruction in printmaking techniques is available, but ongoing technical assistance is an additional cost).

Eligibility:
- Who: Limited to emerging artists only (defined as under-recognized and under-represented artists at early stages in their careers). Past recipients of the Keyholder Residency are NOT eligible.
- Residency Status: Only current US residents may apply, and a Social Security Number is strictly required. Furthermore, the artist MUST reside in the New York metro area during the year of the residency.
- Student Status: Students enrolled in any kind of degree program at the time of the residency are strictly NOT eligible.
- Solo Artists Only: Artist duos or teams are not eligible; residencies are awarded per individual artist.
- Studio Access: Artists currently without access to a studio space are highly encouraged to apply.
Program Benefits & Awards:
- Stipend: $1,000 stipend.
- Workspace & Access: 24-hour shared studio access for nine months, including the solvent/etching area and the darkroom, plus dedicated storage space.
- Supplies: Basic supplies provided (newsprint, blotters, solvents, cleaners).
- Professional Development: 1 free printmaking class at LESP, consultation hours with the Printshop’s staff, and opportunities to show new work in exhibitions/public events.
- Perks: Access to Materials for the Arts.
- Housing Constraint: The Printshop strictly DOES NOT provide housing assistance.

- Application Fee: Free to apply.
Application Requirements:
Applications must be submitted completely by the deadline (incomplete applications will not be considered).
- Up to 10 digital images of recent work (created within the past 2 years).
- Image list (including your name, work title, year, medium, and dimensions).
- Completed application form.
- Artistic resume.
- Names and contact information of two references.(Note: The organizers request absolutely no phone or email inquiries regarding application status).

- Notification of Results: Emailed before the residency start date.
