Organizer Information
The Kunsthalle München, formally known as the Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung, is supported by the Hypo-Kulturstiftung, a foundation established in 1983 by the former Hypotheken- und Wechselbank to mark the company's 150th anniversary. The Kunsthalle opened to the public two years later, on 14 June 1985. In 2001, it moved into its current premises in the "Fünf Höfe" complex in the heart of Munich, designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, with around 1,200 m² of exhibition space equipped with state-of-the-art museum technology. With around 350,000 visitors every year, the Kunsthalle München ranks among Germany's most distinguished exhibition venues, presenting three major exhibitions annually that span painting, sculpture, works on paper, photography, media art, craft, design, and fashion, alternating monographic exhibitions with interdisciplinary thematic projects.
