Künstlerhaus Edenkoben offers dedicated living and working stipends to support the creative development of authors, visual artists, and translators.

Applications are open for the 2027 Edenkoben Residencies.

The program provides extended time for focused artistic creation in a supportive environment. It is divided into three distinct tracks: Literature, Visual Arts, and Translation.

(Note: Since 2017, the Künstlerhaus has offered a fully wheelchair-accessible apartment, and authors/artists with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply).

Eligibility & Strict Application Rules:

  • Language Requirement: All application materials must be submitted in German.
  • Re-application Rule: Applicants who were rejected in the previous year may not apply this year. Furthermore, after three unsuccessful applications for an Edenkoben stipend, no further applications are permitted.

Track-Specific Details & Requirements:

1. Visual Arts (Bildende Kunst)

  • Duration: 5 months (either Jan 15 – Jun 15, OR Jul 15 – Dec 15).
  • Required Materials (Single PDF, max 5 MB): 1. CV with artistic background and previous grants.2. Motivation letter explaining the choice of residency and your artistic goals (max 1 page A4).3. 10 to 20 photos/images of your work (max A4 size per image; no slides or CDs).4. Indication of whether you are applying for the first or second half of the year.

2. Authors (Autoren)

  • Duration: 2 months or 5 months (either Jan 15 – Jun 15, OR Jul 15 – Dec 15).
  • Required Materials (Single PDF, max 5 MB): 1. CV with artistic background and previous grants.2. Motivation letter explaining your artistic goals for the stay (max 1 page A4).3. Proof of at least one publication (e.g., ISBN or copy of the cover/table of contents. Self-published works do not count).4. 3 to 6 published or unpublished texts/excerpts (max 20 pages total).5. Indication of whether you are applying for the first or second half of the year.

3. Germersheim Translator Fellowship

  • Duration: 2 months (between October and December).
  • Obligation: Translators must be willing to host events/workshops with students at the Faculty of Translation, Linguistics, and Cultural Studies at the University of Mainz in Germersheim.
  • Required Materials (Single PDF, max 5 MB): 1. Cover letter detailing your proposed translation project and ideas for student events.2. CV and previous grants.3. Bibliography of your past translations and publications.

Post-Residency Obligation:

All residents are requested to write a brief written report about their stay at the Künstlerhaus upon completion of the residency. (A formal house contract and rules are signed upon acceptance).
