Künstlerhaus Marktoberdorf (Dr. Geiger-Haus Art and Culture Foundation). A museum for contemporary art located in the Ostallgäu region of Bavaria. The museum complex consists of two connected buildings: the historic Dr. Geiger-Haus (a 1920s residential building with classic white-walled exhibition spaces) and the Franz Schmid-Haus (a modern building completed in 2001 featuring exposed brickwork, wood, and steel).

Applications are open for the Summer Exhibition 2026 Open Call.

For the first time, the Künstlerhaus Marktoberdorf is seeking an external team of artists and/or curators to design an exhibition space within the museum and realize a contemporary and experimental art project over an eight-week period. The selected project must interact with the architecture of the Künstlerhaus and include an innovative accompanying program that appeals to a broad local and supra-regional audience.

Eligibility:

  • Who: Artists from all disciplines who have curatorial experience, or mixed teams (curators and artists), individuals, or collectives.
  • Demographics: There are no restrictions regarding age, gender, or place of residence.
  • Independence: Teams or individuals must apply with a curatorial concept and an implementation idea that they can realize independently in the spaces with manageable technical requirements.
  • Inclusivity: The implementation must be inclusive and barrier-free.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Funding: A flat-rate fee of €8,000 (incl. VAT) to cover honorariums, expenses, and production costs for the selected team/individual.
  • Space: Access to 550m² of exhibition space (400m² in the Franz Schmid-Haus, 150m² in the Dr. Geiger-Haus), plus the garden and courtyard. You may use all or only selected spaces.
  • Support: Support with on-site implementation and educational programming (by arrangement), supervision during opening hours, networking opportunities, and communication/press work (including posters and flyers).

Application Requirements:

Submissions must be strictly formatted as a digital PDF file (maximum 15 MB) consisting of exactly 4 A3 portrait pages:

  • Page 1: Project title, introduction with short CV, contact details.
  • Page 2: Project concept (approx. 2,000 characters).
  • Page 3: Visual representation/sketches of the project concept.
  • Page 4: Implementation idea (e.g., which rooms will be used, accompanying program, cost breakdown).(Note: Submitted project concepts and visual representations will be published digitally and as part of an Open Call exhibition in May 2026).
