Organizer Information
The Kunstpalais is the museum for international contemporary art of the city of Erlangen, Germany, presenting four to six changing exhibitions per year across roughly 500 m² of exhibition space. It is the successor institution to the Städtische Galerie Erlangen, which has been housed since 1974 in the Palais Stutterheim, a baroque building constructed between 1728 and 1730 in the center of the city. Following a two-year renovation, the Kunstpalais reopened in 2010 under founding director Claudia Emmert with more than 500 m² of exhibition space across the ground floor and basement of the Palais Stutterheim. Its exhibition programme focuses on relevant positions within the international contemporary art scene that connect to contemporary discourse within and beyond the art world, with particular attention to conceptual links to literature, philosophy, and film, supported by interdisciplinary accompanying programmes. The museum is also home to the Städtische Sammlung Erlangen, a municipal collection of more than 4,500 works including prints, multiples, and artists' books.
