Organizer Information:

Land Art Museum. Hestøya Island offers a unique diversity of vegetation, a fusion of coastal and inland climates, and a multitude of tree species. The island features varied terrain, natural harbor basins, and remains of former agricultural land, making it an ideal ecological setting for creating land art.

Applications are open for the Land Art Museum Artist-in-Residence Programme 2026.

Artists worldwide who work with Land Art are invited to join this residency at Hestøya Island in Namsos. The entire island, including its coastal and maritime areas, is at the artist's disposal to create site-specific works that integrate into the natural environment and evolve over time.

Eligibility:

  • Who: Artists worldwide working specifically with Land Art.
  • Ecological Impact: The works created are expected to have NO adverse impact on the island's ecological habitat. They must be an integral part of the natural environment.
  • Artwork Permanence: Participating artists must formalize their commitment by signing a contract agreeing to leave their completed artworks on the island, where they will become a permanent part of the exhibition and the museum.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Stipend: A monetary compensation of €1000 upon finalizing the work.
  • Duration: Up to a one-month stay.
  • Accommodation & Logistics: Accommodation, food, and local transport during the stay are fully covered.
  • Production Support: Assistance to finalize the art project, if needed.

Application Requirements:

All applications will be evaluated based on artistic quality, feasibility, and meaningful engagement with the island's environment. (Strict Constraint: Incomplete applications or those without clear visual documentation will not be considered).

Submissions must include:

  1. CV and artist BIO.
  2. A detailed proposal including: a description of the proposed land art work, visual materials/sketches illustrating the concept, and planned materials and techniques.
  3. A statement of intent explaining your interest in the residency.
  4. Proposed dates and preferred length of stay (up to one month during the given program dates).
