Liverpool Biennial and the British Council invite mid-career curators from Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia to apply for 8 fully funded places in a week-long networking and development program during the 13th Liverpool Biennial. The initiative aims to support international curators by fostering collaborations with UK artists and institutions through talks, workshops, performances, and studio visits.

Program Details:

The program, themed “BEDROCK,” explores Liverpool’s geological and social foundations. Participants will engage in curated activities, including:

  • Talks, workshops, and presentations with artists and curators.
  • Visits to exhibitions, studios, and cultural sites.
  • A day trip to Bradford City of Culture 2025.
  • Contributions to a digital resource journal and program evaluation.

  • Application deadline: 2 March, 2025
  • Shortlisting notification: Week of 24 March 2025.
  • Program dates: 22 – 29 July 2025.
  • Selection based on application quality and alignment with program goals.

 

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • Be mid-career curators living and working in eligible countries.
  • Demonstrate how the program aligns with their practice and career development.
  • Have a valid passport (valid for at least three months post-trip).
  • Be fluent in English (no formal education required).

 

Eligible countries:

  • Sub-Saharan Africa: Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
  • South Asia: Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka.
  • Southeast Asia: Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia.

  • Apply online with a 100-word curatorial practice overview and a 150-word statement on why the opportunity is crucial to professional development.
  • Include a CV, website, or portfolio links.
