Organizer Information:

La Napoule Art Foundation (LNAF) encourages artists to engage in cultural interchange and the creation of art that impacts the world for the common good. The foundation welcomes creative minds to live and work at the historic Château de La Napoule—a restored medieval fortress and Belle Époque mansion located just outside Cannes, France.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the Fall 2026 International Artist Residency.

This residency brings together artists to explore their individual expression within a supportive environment of peers. Artists are expected to use every available opportunity, especially shared mealtimes, to build community, exchange ideas, and forge friendships.

Category:

Multidisciplinary.

(Open to artists, writers, and creatives of all disciplines).

Eligibility:

  • Who: Emerging and established artists over the age of 18.
  • Scope: Open to all nationalities. (Note: Participants are expected to be able to communicate effectively in English or French).
  • Constraints: Couples must apply separately. There are no provisions for family, friends, children, or pets. Due to the historic nature of the facilities (which have no elevators), the Château and Villa are not currently wheelchair accessible.
  • Alumni: Artists may apply once every calendar year. Alumni are encouraged to apply, but priority may be given to artists who have not yet received an LNAF Residency.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Accommodation: Residents are housed in single rooms equipped with private baths and sea or garden views, located in either the Château or the recently renovated Villa Marguerite. Housekeeping and weekly linen service are provided.
  • Workspace: Each resident is assigned a studio based on their needs, located throughout the historic property (inside the castle or in towers on the grounds).
  • Meals: LNAF provides breakfast and dinner Monday through Friday, served in the Château’s Gothic Dining Room. For lunches and weekends, residents have full access to the Villa's renovated kitchen (there are grocery markets and cafes within walking distance).
  • Amenities: Wireless internet, on-site laundry facilities (washer, dryer, clothesline), and stunning surroundings on the Côte d’Azur.
  • Marketing & Publicity: LNAF promotes its residents through press releases, e-blasts, website archives, and potential opportunities to participate in exhibitions or outreach programs.

Application Fee & Program Costs:

  • Application Fee: $30 USD (via the SlideRoom portal).
  • Participant Costs: All specific equipment, laptops (with electrical converters), and art materials are the responsibility of the artist (shipping materials to the Château in advance is highly recommended). If an artist wishes to have an overnight guest, a strict two-night limit applies, prior approval is required, and a fee is charged.

Application Requirements:

Applications are reviewed by an international panel based on:

  1. Clarity of artistic vision (articulated in the artist statement and work samples).
  2. Evidence of professional commitment and a high level of practice.
  3. Indications that the applicant is moving forward with a specific project, and how the residency will play a critical role in it.
