The British Mycological Society (BMS) is a scientific charity dedicated to promoting fungal science. They recognize that art is a powerful tool for attracting new audiences to the world of mycology (the study of fungi).

Title & Description:

The Massee Arts Grant provides funding for new individual art projects that encourage the public to engage with and learn about fungi. The grant aims to promote fungal science to a wide audience and provide a lasting legacy for public engagement. Funded projects will be showcased as part of UK Fungus Day in October.

(Open to all art forms: visual arts, performance, digital, etc., provided they focus on fungi).

Eligibility:

  • Who: Individual artists from all disciplines.
  • Scope: International / Worldwide, provided the work is accessible to UK audiences.
  • Project Status: Only new projects are eligible (not ongoing or completed works).
  • Funding Rule: The BMS must be the sole funder; no other external financial support is permitted for the project.
  • Exclusions: Previous winners cannot apply for two years following their award.

  • Funding: Grants of up to £5,000 GBP per project.
  • Exposure: Projects will be featured on the BMS and UK Fungus Day websites, social media channels, and in the BMS members' newsletter.

Application Requirements:

Applicants must complete an online form. The proposal should clearly outline how the project will help society engage with mycology. If the applicant is not based in the UK, they must explain how the work will reach a UK audience.
