Organizer Information:
The Morean Center for Clay (MCC) operates under the larger umbrella of the Morean Arts Center. Located in a Historic Train Station within the Warehouse Arts District, MCC offers a variety of educational courses, studio rentals, exhibitions, and a nationally recognized residency program.
Title & Description:
Applications are open for the 2026-2027 Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Program.
This competitive, one-year residency (with the possibility of a second year) is designed to enhance the educational experience of early-career ceramic artists seeking professional recognition. Up to five residents will work in a shared studio setting, expanding their body of work, teaching classes, participating in critiques, and culminating their experience with a solo capstone exhibition.

Eligibility:
- Who: Early-career ceramic artists who have recently finished an undergraduate degree (BFA).
- Goals: Best suited for artists entering the professional field who want to gain teaching experience, professional development, and community involvement.
Program Benefits & Awards:
- Workspace & Facilities: 24-hour access to a shared studio, plus free firings (Electric and Gas) and discounts on clay purchases and classes.
- Additional Paid Work: Residents can work up to an additional 20 hours a month assisting in facilities maintenance/kiln loading at a rate of $14/hour (Florida minimum wage).
- Teaching Income: Residents will teach 1-3 classes per 6-week session and rotate teaching Friday Night Clay classes. (Note: MCC instructors are paid as independent contractors based on class enrollment).
- Professional Development: Residents receive a monthly stipend and annual travel assistance to the NCECA conference (funded through resident-led fundraising events).
Work Exchange & Obligations:
- Required Service: In exchange for the studio and free firings, each resident must provide 8 hours of service per week (fulfilled by working one day a week, Thursday-Saturday, 9am-5pm).
- Duties: Tasks include assisting in workshops, cleaning, loading/firing kilns, mixing glazes, splitting/stacking wood, and installing exhibitions.
