Millay Arts offers multidisciplinary artists time and space to focus on their creative work through residencies. The program fosters artistic growth, community engagement, and the realization of projects that may not be possible otherwise.  

Information & Application Details:

  • Residency Length: 3.5 weeks (with 12-day sessions available in June & September).
  • Application Deadlines:
    • March 1 (for August–November residencies)
    • October 1 (for March–July residencies)
  • Blind Jury Process: Applications are judged anonymously by a panel of professionals.
  • Application Fee: $45

Eligibility:

  • Open to poets of all backgrounds and nationalities.
  • Named fellowships available for specific groups, including BIPOC, Native American artists, transgender/nonbinary creators, and archive-based researchers.
 

How to Apply:

  1. Sign in/Register on the application portal.
  2. Upload Required Documents:
    • Artist Statement (1 page, no name/biography)
    • Work Samples (10 poems, max 15 pages)
    • Biographical Statement (1 page, third-person narrative)
    • Scheduling Preferences
  3. Enter Contact & Payment Information.
  4. Submit Application (ensure all documents are uploaded before submission).
 

Submission Requirements:

  • Documents must not include personal identifiers (to maintain a blind review process).
  • Work sample format is flexible but must be within page limits.
 

Selection Process:

  • Jurors include artists, critics, and academics.
  • The same jury evaluates both annual rounds if an applicant submits twice in the same year.
 

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Core Residency: No funding guarantee, but some stipends available.

  • Named Fellowships:
    • Charm City Fellow: Two awards (priority for BIPOC artists from MD, PA, D.C., NJ, VA & VI) + travel stipend.
    • IAIA Fellow: One award for Native American artists.
    • Nancy Graves Fellow: One award for archive-based research (no stipend).
    • Vincent Prize Fellow: Two awards for trans*/genderqueer artists (stipend based on funding).
