MTA Arts & Design is seeking new media artists to submit previous works for consideration in future digital art installations at Fulton Transit Center and LIRR Grand Central Madison. Selected artists will have the opportunity to create immersive, site-specific digital artworks displayed across large, multi-channel screens.

  • Fulton Transit Center: 52 integrated digital screens throughout the complex.
  • Grand Central Madison: 5 LED walls (7.5 ft high x 17 ft wide).
  • Note: Locations do not have audio capabilities.

Eligibility:

Artists will be selected based on:

  • Artistic merit: Evident in previous work, exhibitions, awards, or honors.
  • Technical proficiency: Experience with digital, moving image, and new media art.
  • Artists in other mediums can apply with a detailed explanation of technical expertise or collaborative partners.

 

Theme:

Creating dynamic, immersive environments through digital, moving-image installations, transforming public transit spaces into living, breathing art hubs.

How to Apply:

Artists must submit the following materials via the online application:

  • Up to 5 completed digital works (.mov or .mp4)
  • Up to 10 still images (.jpg or .png)
  • Short application form
  • Bio and CV
  • Artist statement

 

Submission Requirements:

  • Application deadline: March 30, 2025, 11:59 PM EST
  • Artists are encouraged to visit the sites before applying to understand the space and scale.

 

Selection Process:

  • Initial Review: Submissions reviewed for artistic merit and technical capability.
  • Finalists: Selected to develop site-specific artwork proposals for 2026 digital art programming.
  • Honorarium: Finalists receive compensation to create detailed proposals, including production and installation oversight.
  • Project Budget: Varies based on the scope, including pre- and post-production costs.
  • Artwork Length: 2 minutes (exhibition duration varies).
