Organizer Information:
Mudflat Studio is an urban community clay center in the metro Boston area. Since 1996, Mudflat has offered this highly competitive one-year residency to provide dedicated clay artists with the space, resources, and community integration needed to advance their practice.
Title & Description:
Applications are open for the 2026-2027 Year-Long Residency.
This one-year commitment allows a ceramic artist to deeply embed themselves in the Mudflat community. The resident will spend a minimum of 20 hours per week in their studio, give public presentations on their work, and assist the studio with technical jobs, ultimately culminating in a solo exhibition and reception in July.

Eligibility:
- Who: Ceramic artists with knowledge of a variety of clay techniques and kiln-firing experience.
- Working Style: Applicants must have the ability to work independently and demonstrate enthusiasm for being part of an urban community clay center.
- Commitment: Must commit to the full year (September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2027).
Program Benefits & Awards:
- Workspace: A private 90-square-foot studio space provided at no cost, with 24/7 access to the Mudflat facility.
- Financial Stipends: A monthly materials stipend of $75 (to be applied to clay materials and firing costs) and a monthly housing stipend of up to $800.
- Income Opportunities: Paid teaching opportunities in Mudflat's educational programs, plus opportunities for retail sales at Open Studio events and the Mudflat Gallery.
- Exhibition: A solo exhibition and reception hosted at Mudflat in July to showcase the work created during the residency.
Work Exchange & Obligations:
- Studio Time: Artists are expected to spend a minimum of 20 hours per week working in their private studio.
- Technical Assistance: Residents are required to work 5 hours per week for Mudflat, assisting with technical studio jobs.
- Public Engagement: The resident must give 2 public presentations during the year (the first being a slide show of their work in September).
