Short Description
The municipality of Bonheiden is launching the project ‘Art in the Streets’ with the aim of bringing residents and visitors into contact with various art forms. This initiative literally brings art to the public and encourages wonder, dialogue, and connection. The encounter with art is meant to inspire, provoke reflection and debate, deepen understanding, and contribute to community building and society as a whole.
Eligibility
The municipality of Bonheiden is organizing a competition for the design, creation, and installation of an artwork in public space.
The artwork must be placed for a minimum of six years (until January 1, 2032 at the latest) on the corten steel pedestal in front of the Bonheiden town hall.
This location is highly visible from the Waversesteenweg and Jacques Morrensplein, and will attract the attention of visitors to ‘t Blikveld, the town hall, and the library.
Submission Requirements
- Name of the artist and contact details (address, phone number, email)
- A brief CV of the artist with a portfolio
- A design sketch of the artwork with a description of the concept and the technical execution (materials, method, dimensions, etc.)
- A realistic timeline aiming for installation before 19 December 2025
- The total cost for the entire project, including installation

Special Considerations
- The proposed artwork must be unique.
- The artwork must be durable and resistant to weather conditions and vandalism. It must be low-maintenance and fire-safe. Any necessary maintenance will be the responsibility of the artist.
- The artwork must be mountable on the existing pedestal, with both size and weight being important considerations. The size of the artwork should be in proportion to the existing pedestal.
- The installation of the artwork on the pedestal must be completed before 19 December 2025.
- The winning candidate, with whom the municipality of Bonheiden signs a contract, is responsible for the design, realization, installation, and maintenance according to the approved design and execution plan.
- The winning artist waives the copyrights and intellectual property rights of the installed artwork.
- By submitting their application, participants agree to all the terms of this call.
- The artist is free to entrust the technical concept or the execution of parts of the artwork to technical specialists.
Program Benefits & Awards
For the selected project, the municipality of Bonheiden will provide a maximum of €8,000 (including VAT) to the artist.
This budget covers all costs, including:
- The creation of a final design
- The production and installation of the artwork
- The purchase of required equipment and materials
- Travel time, travel and accommodation expenses, and administrative costs
- Any potential maintenance costs for the full duration of the display period
The artist will be paid no later than one month after the completion of the work.
An interim payment to cover the cost of materials used, up to a maximum of €3,500, is possible.
