Short Description
The Musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac offers prestigious funding opportunities for innovative research projects in anthropology, archaeology, ethnomusicology, history, history of the arts, and sociology. These funding mechanisms support original research and creative projects that align with the museum’s priority research areas: diversity of aesthetics and creativity; museums, heritage, cultures and identities; and colonial legacies (reappropriations, claims, sharing).
Information & Application Details:
Research Areas: Focus on arts, techniques, cultures, and both material and immaterial heritages outside Europe, as well as museum institutions and their collections.
Project Fit: Applicants must detail how their project leverages the museum’s resources (collections, archives, media library, and scientific community).
Language Proficiency: Candidates must demonstrate strong written and oral proficiency in French and English. No nationality restriction applies.
Doctoral Scholarships:
Quantity: 4 scholarships
Target Group: Doctoral students registered at least in their third year (academic year 2025-2026)
Purpose: To support the writing of the thesis (not intended for funding field or archival research)
Duration: 12 months (non-renewable; from September 1 to August 31)
Funding: €1,400 net per month
Selection: Awarded after evaluation by the museum’s Selection Committee, with particular attention to projects within the priority research axes.
Postdoctoral Contracts:
Quantity: 3 contracts
Target Group: Young doctors who have defended their thesis since September 1, 2022 (up to three years post-defense)
Purpose: To further develop research projects within one of the priority research areas while actively contributing to the museum’s activities and collective work.
Duration: 24 months (non-renewable; from September 1 to August 31)
Funding: €2,547 gross per month (totaling approximately €30,564 annually)
Additional Benefit: Includes a funded mission (up to 30 days per year) for field research or archival work outside mainland France.
Selection: Awarded following evaluation and a candidate hearing by the Selection Committee.
Additional Conditions:
Winners must be fully present on-site at the museum (no part-time option).
Doctoral fellows will present a thesis chapter and postdoctoral fellows an article (intended for publication) at the Department’s internal seminar—participation is mandatory.
