Trillium Arts is a rural artist residency center located in Mars Hill, North Carolina, just 30 minutes north of Asheville. Founded by performing arts professionals Phil Reynolds and Heather Hartley, the organization is dedicated to providing artists with the space and silence necessary for the creation of new work. Trillium Arts serves as a "sanctuary for the soul," offering specialized support for dancemakers, writers, and visual artists within a restored historic and natural landscape.

2026-2027 NC Choreographic Fellowships
The NC Choreographic Fellowships 2026 provide 7 to 9 days of intensive residency for North Carolina choreographers. The program’s primary goal is to support the development of a specific new work that is destined for public performance. Fellows are provided with the financial, logistical, and physical resources to bring their creative visions to life alongside their chosen collaborators in a distraction-free mountain setting.

Eligibility
- Residency: Applicants must have been legal residents of the state of North Carolina for at least one year.
- Career Stage: Open to choreographers at any stage of their career.
- Age: Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
- Selection Criteria: Priority is given to artists at a "catalytic point" in their artistic career who are incubating a new project.
Program Benefits & Awards
- Grant: A $1,000 honorarium for the lead choreographer.
- Per Diems: Daily stipends provided for up to five participating artists (choreographer plus 4 dancers).
- Accommodation: Private lodging for the entire team in the Trillium Arts Artist Suite and nearby cabins.
- Rehearsal Space: Full access to the Red Barn Studio at Odonata Farm.
- Mentorship: Professional development support in performing arts management.

Application Requirements
- CV/Resume: Up to 5 pages.
- Project Description: One-page summary including your goals, the value of the project, and details on collaborators.
- "Why Trillium Arts?" Statement: One page on how the natural setting will benefit your specific project.
- Video Work Sample: A total of 5 minutes of footage (provide cue times for longer videos).
- Letter of Recommendation: One letter from an outside recommender, submitted separately by the deadline.
