The Nordic Culture Fund is an intergovernmental body established in 1966 as part of the formalization of Nordic cooperation, governed by an agreement ratified by all Nordic countries. Headquartered at the Nordic House in Copenhagen alongside the secretariats of the Nordic Council and the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Fund's core mission is to promote Nordic cultural cooperation both within the region and internationally, with its budget provided by the Nordic Council of Ministers. It administers a range of funding programmes supporting research visits, network building, and cross-border collaboration in art and culture. NEMO (Northern European Mobility Opportunity) is delivered by the Nordic Culture Fund in partnership with the arts funding agencies of Ireland, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

Northern European Mobility Opportunity (NEMO) — 2026 Round
NEMO is a mobility and artistic exchange programme launched in 2025, supported by the Nordic Culture Fund together with the arts funding agencies of Ireland, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. It is designed for individual artists and arts practitioners in the early stages of their careers, reflecting a shared recognition among the partner organizations that this group faces particular challenges in the current climate of geopolitical tension, economic uncertainty, and post-Brexit disruption to cross-border collaboration between the Nordic region, the UK, and Ireland. The programme provides financial support for artists to develop new cross-regional partnerships and collaborative initiatives, with no requirement to produce a finished artistic output — research and development toward future collaboration is an accepted use of funds.

Eligibility
- Must be an individual artist or arts practitioner (not an organization or artist collective) resident in one of the Nordic countries (Denmark, Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Åland Islands), the Republic of Ireland, or the UK (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales)
- Must be in the emerging part of their artistic career
- Applicants based in the UK or Ireland must partner with a collaborator based in the Nordic region, and vice versa
- The collaborative partner may be an artist, arts practitioner, or organization, but must be based in the "opposing" region
- Must be proposing a new partnership/collaboration and must have already approached the intended partner, providing a letter or email of agreement/support as proof
- Must have a background and track record as an artist or arts practitioner, evidenced by a CV
- May only be involved in one application to this fund
- Must hold a bank account in their country of residence
- Must complete the collaboration within one year of receiving the grant
- Not eligible: applicants who received NEMO support in 2025; organizations; artist collectives or artists applying on their behalf; full-time students (undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD); those seeking support for internships or volunteer work; those seeking funding to attend an artistic residency; those seeking funding for studies or professional courses; individuals seeking funding for film projects; individuals wishing to tour or exhibit existing work abroad
Program Benefits & Awards
- Grant of up to DKK 75,000 (approx. EUR 10,000) per successful application
- Total round funding of approximately DKK 2,500,000 (approx. EUR 345,000), with around 33 awards expected
- Eligible use of funds includes artists' fees (for applicant and partners), critical exchange and research, mentorships, capacity building, creation/design of a small-scale collaboration pilot, public engagement activities, and travel/accommodation for partnership development
- Financial support available for Personal Access Costs to remove barriers for applicants and participants with disabilities

Additional Details
- All parties to the application must have clearly agreed on the scope of the partnership before submission
- Grants cannot be used for capital expenditure (e.g. equipment purchases), artistic residencies, professional courses, activities starting before the grant is received, costs already covered by other funding, touring, or profit-generating activities
- Applications go through an initial eligibility check, with a possible additional sifting stage if volume is high; up to 60 applications advance to a decision-making panel drawn from all partner organizations, which weighs diversity of applicants, art forms, and geography
- Only limited feedback is available to unsuccessful applicants, and there is no appeals process
- Successful applicants must sign a grant agreement and, after project completion, submit a report per the Nordic Culture Fund's guidelines
