Brief Description

The Oglebay Institute Artist Residency is a 12-week program designed to foster community engagement in the arts, provide professional development for early-career artists, and enhance the Institute’s arts education offerings. Located in Wheeling, West Virginia, the residency emphasizes outreach to seniors and high school students in Belmont County, Ohio, while providing artists with the opportunity to create, teach, and exhibit their work.

  • Residency Terms:
    • Term 1: January 13 – March 31, 2025 (Deadline: December 22, 2024)
    • Term 2: February 1 – April 30, 2025 (Deadline: January 5, 2025)
    • Term 3: March 1 – May 31, 2025 (Deadline: February 2, 2025)
  • Stipend: $2,500 living stipend + $750 materials stipend
  • Housing: Reduced-cost housing available upon request

Eligibility

  • Open to professional and emerging artists aged 21+.
  • Reliable transportation required for outreach programs.
  • Preference for artists in ceramics, jewelry, stained glass, or printmaking.

How to Apply

Submit the following via the application portal:

  1. Cover letter (max 2 pages): Include background, intent, and proposed public workshop.
  2. Resume (max 2 pages).
  3. Artist statement (max 250 words).
  4. 5–10 images of completed work.
  5. 2 headshots and 3 images of the artist at work.
  6. $20 nonrefundable entry fee.

Submission Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate their ability to:

  • Teach workshops and assist with classes.
  • Develop an arts curriculum for seniors and high school students.
  • Create a body of work for exhibition.

Selection Process
