Operations Manager Job at Art Metropole

Art Metropole is seeking an Operations Manager to join its small team during a period of institutional growth. The position combines organizational leadership, financial administration, retail and distribution operations, digital infrastructure, and fundraising support. Working closely with the Executive Director, the Operations Manager will help strengthen the systems that enable Art Metropole to deliver its artistic mission and support artists.

The successful candidate should be comfortable working across administrative, financial, commercial, and cultural functions and should have an interest in contemporary art and artist-initiated publishing.

The Role Overview

  • Position: Operations Manager
  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Working Hours: 35 hours per week
  • Salary: CAD $52,000 annually
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid, with the majority of work conducted in person in Toronto
  • Reporting: Works closely with the Executive Director
  • Benefits: Medical, vision, and dental insurance; 2 weeks paid vacation; additional 2 weeks paid time off during the December/January holiday closure
  • Additional Hours: Occasional evenings and weekends may be required for events and openings.

Position & Tasks

The Operations Manager will oversee day-to-day organizational systems and administrative workflows, supervise operational staff and contractors, and support Board-related administration.

Responsibilities also include managing the bookstore and distribution operations, inventory, sales processes, vendor and consignment relationships, wholesale fulfillment, purchasing, shipping and receiving, and retail activities at Art Metropole’s main shop and occasional pop-up locations and fairs.

The role also oversees financial administration, budgeting, cash-flow monitoring, financial reporting, annual audit preparation, and CADAC reporting. The Manager will work with the Executive Director on fundraising, sponsorship, donor stewardship, and grant administration.

Additional responsibilities include improving CRM, e-commerce, inventory management, website, and other digital systems.

Program Benefits

The successful candidate receives a CAD $52,000 annual salary, health-related benefits covering medical, vision, and dental care, two weeks of paid vacation, and an additional two weeks of paid time off during the organization's regular holiday closure. The position also offers professional experience within an internationally recognized artist-run centre and engagement with contemporary art, artist publishing, distribution, and nonprofit cultural administration.
