Organizer Information:

An offer of the Kulturförderverein Paradiesli, in collaboration with Galerie Eulenspiegel, Basel. The concept was developed to bring talented artists from all over the world to experience a unique cultural environment for contemporary art in the Bernese Oberland, a place of attraction and inspiration for many renowned artists.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the P.AiR.S Residency Program.

Selected artists are invited to live and work for a period of 2x7 weeks during the winter months at Gästehaus Paradiesli, located high above Lake Thun opposite the striking Niesen mountain. The residency accommodates a dynamic community of 2x3 artists of all national origins. The emphasis of the project is on creative exchange. All participants are asked to leave an artistic “trace” (a testimony of their visit) at the end of their stay on a voluntary basis.

Eligibility:

  • Who: Individual artists (no couples/groups) from all national origins.
  • Age Limit: Candidates must be at least 21 years old at the time of application (no upper age limit).
  • Language: Must have a basic knowledge of English or German to communicate effectively in everyday situations in Sigriswil.
  • Insurance: You must be insured against liability and have personal health and accident insurance for the entire duration of your stay.
  • Other Restrictions: Applications must be made personally (galleries/curators/organizations cannot apply on an artist's behalf).

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Accommodation & Workspace: Accommodation in a shared house with 3 bedrooms and a living room with kitchen. Two larger rooms on the ground floor can be used as workspaces (depending on availability), and there is also a large studio located 5 minutes away by bus.
  • Support: The Paradiesli team supports artists with local information, arranging contacts/meetings with local artists, and finding necessary work materials.
  • Exhibition: On the last weekend of the stay, the team offers the opportunity to present works created to the public in a small exhibition.

Application Fee & Program Costs:

  • No Stipend / Self-Funded: Please note that there is no scholarship. Artists are entirely responsible for their own travel, food, drinks, professional materials/tools, health/liability insurance, and any shipping costs for artworks.

How to Apply?

Submit your application online via the registration form on the Paradiesli website. The selection committee will review applications within 4 to 8 weeks.
