PADA Studios is an independent, non-profit, artist-run organization founded in 2018 and based in Barreiro, Portugal. The organization provides artists with time, space, and support to develop their practice in a unique post-industrial environment. Its residency programs foster dialogue, experimentation, and critical exchange within a collaborative setting. Located in a former industrial park dating back to 1885, PADA offers direct access to local manufacturers, material resources, and historical context. PADA International Residency Jan–Jul 2027 – Open Call for Artists

PADA Studios invites international artists to apply for its 2027 International Residency, offering 1– or 2-month immersive programs in Barreiro, Portugal. The residency provides spacious studio space, accommodation, workshops, curatorial guidance, and access to PADA’s facilities in a historic post-industrial environment. Artists are encouraged to develop projects in dialogue with local context, explore experimental and interdisciplinary practices, and engage in professional exchange. The residency culminates in a final group exhibition and Open Studios, fully documented and promoted by PADA.

Eligibility

  • Open to international artists of any nationality.
  • Emerging and established artists at any career stage.
  • Individual artists or collaborative teams (duos may apply for shared studios).
  • Artists must be comfortable communicating in English.
  • Applications for specific fixed residency periods only (January, February–March, April–May, June–July 2027).

Program Benefits & Awards

  • Studio and accommodation in private double bedrooms.
  • Access to workshops (metal, wood, ceramics, screen printing) and darkroom facilities.
  • Comprehensive introductory program including gallery tours, industrial park tours, and visits to the Industrial Museum (CUF archives).
  • Curatorial and technical guidance, including 1–to–1 studio visits, group critiques, and guest curator sessions.
  • Participation in the final group exhibition and Open Studios.

Note: Travel, meals, and art materials are not included; additional optional services (early arrival, extra nights, documentation, and studio cleaning) are charged separately.

Application Fee

  • €1550 per month (includes studio, accommodation, facilities, final exhibition, and documentation).
  • Deposit: 50% to secure a place after selection.
  • Optional extras:
    • Extra nights: €50/night
    • Guests: €25/night (max 5 days)
    • Double occupancy: +25% fee
    • Studio cleaning: €25/hr plus materials
    • Additional documentation: starting at €100
