Organizer Information

The commissioning body for this opportunity is the City of Brampton, a major municipal government in Ontario, Canada, responsible for cultural planning, urban development, and public art initiatives across the city. Through its Cultural Services division, the City actively invests in public art as a tool for civic engagement, placemaking, and community identity-building. Its public art program supports both local and professional artists in creating permanent and temporary works integrated into public infrastructure and community spaces.

This project is developed in collaboration with the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame, originally founded in 1979 and relocated in 1999 to the CAA Sports and Entertainment Complex. The Hall of Fame will now be repositioned within the newly constructed Victoria Park Arena, where it will be redesigned as a renewed exhibition space celebrating Brampton’s sporting heritage through objects, media, and interactive installations. The new arena is part of the City’s broader cultural and recreational infrastructure development strategy.

Title & Description

Suspended Public Art Commission Brampton – Victoria Park Arena Sports Hall of Fame

The City of Brampton invites professional artists, creatives, and artist-led teams to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the design and realization of a suspended public artwork to be installed in the entrance area of the new Victoria Park Arena.

The artwork will be positioned inside the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame exhibition space and will serve as a visually dynamic landmark celebrating the history of sport in Brampton. The installation will be suspended from a reinforced ceiling system using pre-engineered structural rings designed by the project architects.

The selected artist will be expected to develop a concept that is visually engaging, structurally integrated, and responsive to the architectural environment. The work should reflect themes of athletic achievement, community identity, and local sporting heritage while functioning as a prominent entry-point artwork within a high-traffic civic space.
