Public Engagement Manager – Phillips@THEARC

This role invites a skilled professional to lead and expand the public-facing programs of Phillips@THEARC, strengthening community relationships and enhancing collaborative arts initiatives. The Public Engagement Manager will oversee program development, manage day-to-day operations, and cultivate partnerships with local artists, non-profits, and organizations. This position emphasizes fostering inclusive, diverse, and innovative cultural experiences for audiences of all ages, with a focus on youth, families, and community members in Southeast D.C.

The Role Overview

  • Salary: $65,000 – $68,000 annually
  • Contract Type: Full-Time, Exempt
  • Hours: Primarily weekdays, with evening and weekend programming; potential travel 0–10%
  • Reporting To: Director of Public Programs and Phillips@THEARC
  • Location: Phillips@THEARC, Washington, DC, US

Position & Tasks

Operations & Administrative Management
  • Manage day-to-day operations at Phillips@THEARC, coordinating with Building Bridges Across the River and central operations.
  • Supervise Community Engagement Assistants and contract staff, ensuring smooth program execution.
  • Maintain operational systems, including contracts, pay requisitions, and facility management.
  • Oversee program budgets, gallery installations, artwork logistics, and event operations.
  • Maintain records of inventory and space usage; contribute data for reporting and evaluation.
Program & Project Management
  • Implement Phillips@THEARC's strategic plans in collaboration with the Director of Public Programs.
  • Oversee art workshops, after-school programs, school tours, family workshops, and Creative Aging initiatives.
  • Coordinate evening and weekend programming for diverse audiences.
Partner Engagement & Community Outreach
  • Serve as the primary liaison for resident and non-resident partners at THEARC.
  • Build and sustain relationships with local artists, organizations, and businesses.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to promote programming and events.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Support large-scale programs at the main Phillips Collection location when necessary.
  • Stay current on best practices in community engagement, equity-centered programming, and museum operations.
