The Queer and Trans Research Lab (QTRL) at the University of Toronto. The resident will be hosted by the Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies, joining a vibrant intellectual community of faculty and students.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the QTRL Artist-in-Residence (2026–27 Academic Year).

This residency provides substantial financial and material support for an artist whose work centers on LGBTQ2S+ lives, communities, histories, and cultures. The program focuses heavily on the role art plays in expanding how we think about sexual diversity and the relationships between art, activism, and social justice. The residency culminates in a fully funded showcase (exhibition, reading, screening, or performance) of the resident’s work-in-progress.

Eligibility:

  • Who: Artists working in any medium.
  • Thematic Focus: Work must expressly center on LGBTQ2S+ topics, sexual diversity, and social justice.
  • Location Requirement: The successful applicant must be in residence in the Greater Toronto Area during the period of their award.
  • Expectations: The artist is expected to participate in the Centre’s day-to-day activities, which may include guest lectures, a public artist talk, hosting office hours with students, and maintaining a general presence at the Centre.
