Ras de Terra is a multidisciplinary cultural space and art residency located in the rural environment of Villanueva de la Vera, Cáceres, Spain (at the foot of the majestic Sierra de Gredos). Housed in a rehabilitated tobacco drying facility, it provides a creative space designed to connect contemporary artistic practices with the local landscape, community, and rural contexts.

In the coming weeks, Ras de Terra will officially open its call for applications. The residency is aimed at practices that work through research, experimentation, and exchange. The program is looking for proposals from creators who want to utilize the residency time to create, explore, learn, and deeply connect with the local context.

(Aimed at artists and cultural professionals across all disciplines, including visual artists, designers, writers, and researchers).

Eligibility:

  • Who: Individual artists and cultural professionals, as well as creative groups.
  • Scope: International / Worldwide.
  • Focus: Practices based on research, experimentation, and cultural exchange. (Note: You do not strictly need to be a "professional" artist to apply; the jury welcomes creators from diverse backgrounds).

Program Benefits & Awards:

During the 21-day stay, the residency offers:

  • Workspace: A 150 m² shared, fully adaptable open-plan workspace equipped with work tables, tools, projectors, and even musical instruments.
  • Accommodation: Private ensuite double accommodation (with options to share) and access to fully equipped communal kitchens and cozy living rooms.
  • Environment: A peaceful rural environment featuring an outdoor swimming pool (in summer), a vegetable garden, and bicycles to explore the natural surroundings.
  • Support & Meals: Mentoring and curatorial support from the Ras de Terra team. Breakfast, cleaning services, and a stocked pantry with essential ingredients are included.

Application Fee & Program Costs:

  • Application Fee: Free to apply.
  • Residency Fee: As an independent residency without external funding, Ras de Terra is a fee-based program. (While the exact 2026 rates are TBA, fees typically start around €55 per day depending on the room type and length of stay). Note: The organizers gladly assist selected artists by providing documentation to help them seek financial support from their national Arts Councils or other third-party organizations.
