Organizer Information
The Henry Moore Foundation was founded by the artist and his family in 1977 to encourage public appreciation of the visual arts. It is registered as a charity (no. 271370), awarding grants to arts organisations around the world with a mission to bring great sculpture to as many people as possible. The Foundation operates from two locations: Henry Moore Studios & Gardens in Perry Green, rural Hertfordshire, and the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds, West Yorkshire. The Henry Moore Institute itself opened to the public on 22 April 1993 and is housed in a Grade II-listed building converted from three former wool merchants' offices, connected via a bridge to Leeds Art Gallery, where free admission is offered. As stated in the source, the Institute manages the sculpture collection and archive of Leeds Museums and Galleries in partnership with Leeds Art Gallery, and attracts around 100,000 visitors each year. In 2024, the Institute underwent a refurbishment project to elevate its spaces and enhance visitor experience, alongside sustainability improvements including solar panels and improved insulation.
