Coordinator Artistic and Technical Development – Rijksakademie Job Opening 2026

The Rijksakademie is seeking a Coordinator Artistic and Technical Development to join its team in Amsterdam. This full-time position (32–36 hours per week) is designed for an experienced professional capable of supporting and facilitating artistic development within a highly dynamic and international residency environment.

This role centres on creating and maintaining an environment where artists can experiment freely, develop their practices, and engage in interdisciplinary collaboration. The selected candidate will act as a key mediator between artists, technical specialists, advisors, and institutional leadership, ensuring that the residency programme remains artistically coherent, innovative, and responsive to contemporary discourse.

The Role Overview

  • Position Title: Coordinator Artistic and Technical Development
  • Contract Type: Full-time (1.0 FTE), initially fixed-term with potential for permanent contract
  • Salary: €4,131 – €5,516 per month (Scale 11, Museum CAO, based on experience)
  • Working Hours: 32–36 hours per week
  • Reporting to: General Director & Director of Development
  • Location Requirement: Based in the Netherlands or willing to relocate
  • Programme Context: International artist residency and post-academic development programme

Position & Tasks

  • Facilitate a productive and supportive environment for artists’ research, experimentation, and production
  • Coordinate collaboration between artists, technical workshops, and artistic advisors
  • Play an active role in the selection process of resident artists
  • Develop and maintain an international network of artists, curators, and institutions
  • Oversee the artistic coherence and quality of the residency programme
  • Support interdisciplinary exchange and cross-disciplinary dialogue
  • Mediate between individual and collective needs within the residency community
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align artistic vision with institutional strategy
  • Manage operational coordination between workshops and programme activities

Eligibility

  • Open to international professionals in the contemporary art field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in coordinating artistic production or similar roles
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary art practices and global art discourse
  • Proven experience working with artists, curators, and institutions
  • Ability to operate within diverse and multicultural environments
  • Strong communication, mediation, and leadership skills
  • Fluency in English (Dutch is a plus)
  • Willingness to be based in the Netherlands
