Title & Description:

Applications are open for the Rotating AiRs transnational residency programme.

This multi-phased residency and exhibition enables artists to investigate the interrelations of colonialism and climate change from a transnational perspective. Each artist will engage in a global rotating residency starting with a one-month visit to either Lubumbashi, Yogyakarta, or Mexico City, followed by two months in each of the European port cities (Hoorn, Antwerp, and Barcelona), going through phases of inspiration, pre-production, and production, and culminating in an exhibition.

Eligibility:

  • Who: Visual artists who are curious about working transnationally and whose practice engages with the intersections of colonialism and climate change.
  • Geographic Registration: You MUST be legally registered in a country that is part of the European Union. (Note: Your country of origin does not affect your eligibility).
  • Route Selection: There are three different routes. Your application must clearly state which Rotating AiR route you are applying for and why you chose it, taking into account the starting and ending locations.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Artist Fee: €16,800.
  • Production Budget: €3,000 for creating the work.
  • Logistics: Transport and accommodation are provided by the organisations on your route.
  • Exhibition: The trajectory culminates in a final exhibition in the last city of your chosen Rotating AiR route.

  • Interview Date (For Finalists): Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
  • Final Announcement: July 1, 2026.
  • Residency Routes & Timelines:
    • Rotating AiR #1: Feb 2027 – Oct 2027 (Mexico City → Barcelona → Hoorn → Antwerp).
    • Rotating AiR #2: Sep 2027 – May 2028 (Yogyakarta → Hoorn → Antwerp → Barcelona).
    • Rotating AiR #3: Mar 2028 – Sep 2028 (Lubumbashi → Antwerp → Barcelona → Hoorn).
