Short Description
RUANG// is a platform for curating, cultural production, and critical exchange rooted in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. We work with contemporary artists who make a vital contribution to the world we live in by engaging with the urgent questions of our time.
Eligibility
RUANG/ invites critical writings that explore the entanglements of technology and ecology in contemporary artistic practice across Southeast Asia. Technology here is not only digital tools or emerging media, but also infrastructures, networks, and systems — from extractive industries and surveillance apparatuses to vernacular knowledge and speculative futures. Ecology extends beyond the “natural environment” to include contested landscapes, indigenous cosmologies, resource politics, and the shifting relations between human and more-than-human worlds.
Accepted Geners:
- Critical essays: 1,500–2,500 words
- Reaviews: 800–1,200 words
- Experimental writing: up to 1,500 words
RUANG// particularly interested in texts that inquire into:
- The entanglements of technology and ecology in Southeast Asian art
- Questions of ecology in the broadest sense (from landscapes and resources to cosmologies and survival systems)
- New technology in its expanded form (from AI and machine learning to infrastructures, networks, and extractive processes)
