Sant Andreu Contemporani (SAC) is a public-arts initiative based in the Sant Andreu district of Barcelona. SAC supports emerging and young visual artists through its Miquel Casablancas Prize for Visual Arts, public programming, and production support. The residency program is run in cooperation with Fabra i Coats – Fàbrica de Creació, a major creative centre in Barcelona. SAC is part of Barcelona’s cultural infrastructure, supported by the city’s Institut de Cultura (ICUB).

SAC International Curatorial Residency Program 2026
This open call seeks an international curator to join the SAC International Curatorial Residency for 2026. The selected curator will serve as a jury member for the Miquel Casablancas Prize for Visual Arts (SAC) and will develop a curatorial project around a selection of Catalan artists, chosen from applicants to that prize. The curator’s project must be presented either in their country of residence or in another international space that they secure. The idea is to build deeper institutional and artistic connections between the Catalan art scene and curators from Europe, the Mediterranean, or North Africa, fostering dialogue, exchange, and collaboration.

Eligibility

  • International curators (not limited to Spain) may apply.
  • Geographical scope for applications: Europe, the Mediterranean, and North Africa.
  • The curator should have some experience or track record (professional curatorial experience is implied in the application criteria).
  • Proficiency in Spanish or Catalan is required.

Program Benefits & Awards

  • Honorarium for jury work + proposal: €2,000 (gross, including taxes) for participating in the prize jury and developing the curatorial proposal.
  • Production/management budget: €2,000 (gross) to produce the exhibition or curatorial project.
  • Travel and accommodation: The residency covers both travel costs and lodging for the curator.
  • Curatorial project exposure: The curator’s project will be part of SAC’s program and presented internationally (in their country of residence or another chosen venue).
  • Professional development: By serving on the prize jury and working closely with Catalan artists, curators deepen their understanding of the local art ecosystem and build institutional partnerships.

Application Requirements

  1. Contact details (name, email, address) via the online form.
  2. A motivation letter/cover letter explaining why they want to curate this project.
  3. A curatorial statement describing their curatorial outlook/interests.
  4. A CV or dossier of curatorial projects: previous curatorial experience, exhibitions, or projects.
  5. Documentation about the exhibition venue in their country (or elsewhere) where they plan to host the project: name of the institution, dates, agreement or letter of intent.
  6. A signed agreement with that venue (or proof of agreement) , including proposed dates.
  7. Possibly other supporting documentation according to the form.

Additional Details

  • The selected curator will serve on the jury of the Miquel Casablancas Prize.
