Organizer Information:
The Serlachius Residency is a collaborative initiative by the Serlachius Museums and Mänttä Art Festivals. Located in the "Art Town" of Mänttä, the residency offers space for independent work and interaction within a vibrant cultural community, strongly guided by the ISO 14001 environmental standard.
Title & Description:
Applications are open for the Serlachius Residency in 2027.
The residency provides dedicated workspaces and accommodation for individuals or groups to focus on their artistic or research practices. Residents work independently but are encouraged to interact with the local community, including participating in a monthly Friday coffee gathering to briefly introduce their work. Optional, self-directed exhibitions or events can be organized in the Residency Gallery free of charge.

Eligibility:
- Who: Visual artists, art historians, researchers, journalists, curators, work partners, artist groups, and families. (Must be of legal age; no upper age limit).
- Language: Must have sufficient proficiency in Finnish or English for daily communication.
- Limitations: You must maintain a permanent address elsewhere (this is a temporary stay). Applicants must apply as private individuals (institutions cannot apply on an applicant's behalf).
- Workspace Rules: Working at the Studio is allowed 24/7, but overnight stays in the studio are strictly prohibited. Quiet hours in the accommodation (Einola) are from 11 PM to 6 AM.
Program Benefits & Awards:
- Workspace & Accommodation: No rent is charged for the residency period. You are allocated a workspace at The Studios and accommodation at the Einola residency apartment (or another designated location). Einola features a shared kitchen, sauna, laundry room, and toilet facilities.
- Exhibition Space: Voluntary use of the Residency Gallery for exhibitions/events (no rent charged).
- Support: The Residency Coordinator assists with exhibition arrangements and communication. If your project utilizes Serlachius collections/archives, museum staff will assist (material requests must be submitted at least two months in advance).
Application Fee & Program Costs:
- Self-Funded Elements: There is no rent or application fee, but residents are strictly responsible for their own travel, work materials, living expenses, and insurance during the residency period. (No fees are charged for pre-arranged overnight guests or companions listed on the application).
Obligations / Strict Penalties:
- Final Report: Residents MUST submit a written report (at least one A4 page, approx. 1800–1900 characters) about their stay within one month of the residency ending. Failure to submit this report on time will result in a retroactive usage fee of €300/month per adult resident.
- Cancellations: Cancellations made less than a month before the residency period incur a €100 fee (unless a medical certificate is provided).
- Lost Keys: A lost key incurs a €60 fee.
