Skagen’s Museum focuses on the Scandinavian artists’ colony, the Skagen painters, active since the late 19th century. Skagen AiR revitalizes the historical studios located in the museum's beautiful gardens, aiming to build new relations between resident artists and the cultural history, community, and people of Skagen.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the 2026-2027 Skagen AiR Residency Program.

This program invites artists to propose an ambitious residency plan that seeks to attain artistic quality at a high professional level. The jury evaluates applications based on the artist's motivation, reflections on artistic themes, and their ideas for establishing connections with local companies, associations, and citizens in Skagen.

(Evaluated by a jury including a multimedia artist, composer, writer, and museum director).

Eligibility:

  • Who: Professional Nordic artists who have completed a relevant artistic educational program or have documented professional experience.
  • Strict Geographic Constraint: Applicants must be citizens of AND currently living in one of the following countries: Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, or the Faroe Islands.
  • Language: The residency language is English. Artists must be able to communicate and converse about their practice in English.

Application Requirements:

Applicants must submit an electronic application form with the following two attachments (Max 10 MB in total):

  1. Resume (Max 2 MB): A concise CV containing professional experience, collaborative projects, educational background, and the names and contact details of two professional referees.
  2. Portfolio (Max 8 MB): Documentation of earlier work within a professional context (e.g., images, videos, audio files, or similar content).(Note: No other material must be included in the application).
