Aalborg Municipality is currently implementing a major extension and renovation of Sofiendalskolen, designed by Norconsult (Nordic Office of Architecture).

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the Sketch proposal for art at Sofiendal School.

In connection with the construction, an art project is desired that will mark and create transitions between different functions and areas at six selected locations in the school's original building. The target group is primarily students in grades 3-7. The six art projects can stand alone and function as markers between zones and guideposts, or they can incorporate artifacts from the schools' historical collection or from the students.

Eligibility:

  • Safety & Durability: Works must be durable, of high quality, and not pose any nuisance or danger (e.g., it must not pose a fire hazard).
  • Mounting: Mounted on the wall, floor, or ceiling.
  • Spatial Requirements & Zones: * Areas A & B: Main entrance access. Ceiling height: 2.55m for beams, 2.60m for ceiling.
    • Areas C & D: Sloping roof with 7m ceiling height. Area C requires 2 x 4 seats.
    • Areas E & F: Sloping roof with 7m ceiling height. Area E requires 2 x 4 seats and must help form walking lines. Area F requires 2 x 4 seats.(Note: Specific color codes are assigned to each zone. Please refer to the color scheme attachments on their website).

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Commission Budget: DKK 450,000 (+ VAT) allocated for the final overall art project covering all six locations.
  • Shortlist Sketch Fee: Three selected sketches will be chosen for further qualification, with each artist receiving DKK 25,000.

Application Requirements (Phase 1):

For this initial deadline, artists must submit:

  1. A conceptual sketch in the form of a drawing.
  2. An explanation of the choice of materials.(Note: If shortlisted for the final draft phase, artists will then need to provide actual work sketches, assembly explanations, partner/supplier lists, maintenance guidance, and a full budget).

  • Site Visits (Optional): March 26, 2026 (11:00 AM) and April 7, 2026 (10:00 AM).
  • Conceptual Sketch Deadline: April 20, 2026.
  • Final Draft Proposal Deadline (For Shortlisted Artists): June 15, 2026.
  • Final Decision: June 24, 2026.
  • Installation Window: Week 42.
