Title & Description

Sketch Proposal for Art at Sofiendalskolen 2026

Aalborg Municipality invites professional artists to submit sketch proposals for site-specific public artworks integrated into the renovation and extension of Sofiendalskolen (an elementary school in Aalborg, Denmark). The project includes six key areas in the school’s original building, where artworks will mark transitions between spaces and contribute to wayfinding, identity, and spatial coherence.

Artists are encouraged to propose works that are durable, visually engaging, and contextually responsive to the school environment, taking into account safety, functionality, and the needs of students in grades 3–7. Proposed works may stand alone or form part of a cohesive artistic narrative. Some areas require the incorporation of seating, while other locations can integrate historical artifacts or student participation.

The open call offers artists the opportunity to contribute to a large-scale public art project, providing professional exposure and engagement with a school and municipal audience. The project emphasizes creativity, materials, and spatial awareness, ensuring that artworks are safe, maintainable, and enrich the daily life of the school community.
