Skopje 2028 is the candidate project for the European Capital of Culture 2028, managed by an independent Delivery Body established by the City of Skopje. It ensures independence, transparency, and adherence to EU cultural governance standards. The initiative supports cultural co-financing for artistic projects aligned with European collaboration, citizen participation, and cultural diversity.

Title & Description

Skopje 2028: Open Call for Cultural Co-financing
This call invites individual artists, collectives, cultural organizations, and educational institutions to submit projects for co-financing as part of the Skopje European Capital of Culture 2028 program. Selected projects will receive grants to implement initiatives under thematic pillars such as Art4Hope, Togetherness, rECOvering, CreARTing, and Heritage. Projects can span months or years, supporting cross-disciplinary, participatory, and innovative cultural works, enhancing community engagement and European cooperation.

Eligibility

  • Individuals or groups from cultural or educational organizations.
  • Applicants from North Macedonia, EU countries, and beyond (see official list of eligible countries).
  • Projects must align with one or more thematic pillars and demonstrate European cooperation.

Program Benefits & Awards

    • Grant funding for project implementation, with funding levels ranging from €3,000 to €50,000 per project.

      • Small projects: €3,000 – €10,000

      • Medium projects: €10,000 – €30,000

      • Large projects: €30,000 – €50,000

    • A transparent and independent evaluation process in accordance with European Capital of Culture standards.

    • Support for projects sustained over extended periods (2026–2028).

    • Enhanced visibility through inclusion in Skopje 2028 public materials and programme channels.

    • Participation in cultural evaluation, reporting, and legacy building frameworks aligned with EU best practices.
