The Clay Studio offers a prestigious residency for emerging ceramic artists from the U.S. and abroad, providing space, resources, and a supportive community to develop their work and professional careers. The program lasts up to three years and fosters artistic growth, networking, and community engagement.

 

Information & Application Details:

Deadline: April 1, 2025 (Residency starts September 1, 2025)
Notification: May 15, 2025

Eligibility:

  • Emerging ceramic artists (U.S. & international)
  • Must reside in Philadelphia during the residency

 

Resident Responsibilities:

  • Active participation in the resident and local community
  • Teaching (4 Saturdays/year) and mentoring younger artists
  • Monthly meetings and use of the studio as a primary workspace
  • Living in the greater Philadelphia area
  • Covering material and firing costs
  • Volunteering at community events

  • Contact info, resume, and artist statement
  • Personal statement (250-500 words)
  • 10 digital images (with details)
  • 3 references (contact info only, no letters)

 

Selection Process:

  • Initial review by current residents, curator Jennifer Zwilling, and guest juror George Rodriguez
  • Finalist interviews in mid-April 2025 (phone, in-person, or at NCECA)
  • Program spaces depend on current resident departures

 

Program Benefits:

  • Personal studio space (185-195 sq. ft.)
  • Free program fee (previously $200/month)
  • $250/month fellowship stipend (funded by Windgate Foundation)
