The Edward F. Albee Foundation maintains the William Flanagan Memorial Creative Persons Center (affectionately known as "The Barn") in Montauk, New York. Established by the renowned playwright Edward Albee, the center serves as a secluded retreat for writers and visual artists to work without distraction.

Applications are open for the Summer/Fall 2026 Residency Cycle.

The Foundation offers residencies to creative individuals who need time and space to develop their work. Located in a serene spot near the Atlantic Ocean, the center provides a quiet environment for focused artistic production.

The application process is migrating to the Reviewr platform for this cycle (moving away from Submittable).

Note for Foreign Nationals: The Foundation welcomes international applicants but warns that it does not provide visa advice. Applicants must ensure their passports are valid for at least six months beyond their stay and check requirements for visas or ESTA.

  • Poetry: Up to 12 poems (<20 pages).

  • Fiction/Non-fiction: 1–2 stories, essays, or chapters (<40 pages).

  • Documents: Current resume, Artist Statement (explaining need for residency and project details).

  • References: Email addresses of 2 professionals familiar with your work (they will be contacted for letters).
