The Hopper Prize. A grant-making institution and digital archiving platform established to provide grants, visibility, and career-enhancing validation to artists who demonstrate a serious commitment to their work.

Applications are open for The Hopper Prize - Spring 2026.

This bi-annual open call provides unrestricted cash grants to artists around the globe. Grant winners and finalists are chosen solely on the basis of artistic excellence and the promise of future potential.

Category:

Visual Arts & Multidisciplinary (Including Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Drawing, Video, Performance, Conceptual, Experimental, Installation, Printmaking, New Media, and Textile Art).

Eligibility:

  • Who: Open to all artists internationally, working in any media, at all stages of their careers (emerging to established).
  • Age Limit: Applicants MUST be 18 years of age or older.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Top Grants: 2 artists per cycle (4 annually) will each receive an unrestricted cash grant of $4,500 USD.
  • Secondary Grants: 4 artists per cycle (8 annually) will each receive an unrestricted cash grant of $1,000 USD.
  • Archiving & Visibility: A shortlist of 30 artists per cycle (60 annually) will be selected to have their work archived at hopperprize.org, providing a resource for curators, gallerists, and collectors.
  • Social Media: Applicants may opt-in to have their work considered for additional exposure on the @hopperprize Instagram feed.

Application Fee & Program Costs:

  • Application Fee: There is a $40 USD submission fee due with your application.

Application Requirements:

  • Submission Format: Submissions are accepted ONLY through their official website. They do not accept nominations or direct email submissions.
  • Application Contents: The form is designed to take under 20 minutes and requires: Name & Email, Artwork captions, and up to 10 image/video attachments. (Artist Statement, Biography, and Instagram username are optional).
  • File Specifications: * JPG files should be 2500 pixels wide on their longest dimension.
    • JPG files must not exceed 2 MB per file.
    • Time-based/Video art MUST be submitted as a URL link to YouTube or Vimeo.

Key Dates:

  • Application Deadline: May 12 at 11:59pm PST
  • Cycles: 6 artists receive funding in the Spring; 6 artists receive funding in the Fall.
