The Steel Yard offers residency opportunities to artists working in the industrial arts, including metals, ceramics, light metals, and foundry. Residents gain access to a shared 10,000 square foot studio, tools, resources, and a supportive community of makers. The program encourages creativity and collaboration, providing opportunities to work on specific projects or prototypes. The residency also includes professional development, teaching, course participation, and events.

 

Information and Application Details:

  • Application Deadline: March 1st, 2025 at 11:59 pm
  • Acceptance Notifications: By May 1st, 2025
  • Residency Period: September 12th, 2025 – August 31st, 2026
  • Residency Costs:
    • Free residency opportunities to ensure financial accessibility.
    • Material costs are the responsibility of the artist.
    • Paid fellowships and workshare opportunities are available.

 

Eligibility:
The program is open to all artists with no discrimination based on race, color, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, gender, age, physical limitations, or military status. The Steel Yard is committed to diversity and inclusion.

 

Theme:
This residency focuses on artists working with metals, light metals, ceramics, and foundry, emphasizing industrial arts and craftsmanship.

 

Application Requirements:

  • Current CV/resume
  • Ten digital images (PDFs not accepted) of recent work, with an image list
  • Brief artist bio written in the third person
  • Narrative statement outlining how you’ll use the residency time
  • One reference that can speak to your artistic merit
  • Fellowship and/or Workshare statement (if applicable)

 

Selection Process:
An external committee of artists, academics, curators, and non-profit professionals will evaluate applications. After the initial review, shortlisted applicants may be contacted for further discussion or clarification.

  • Building a diverse cohort of makers
