Organizer Information:
The Studios at MASS MoCA (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art) hosts up to 10 artists at a time on its North Adams campus, surrounded by the beautiful Berkshire Mountains. Since 2015, the program has hosted over 1,000 artists and writers.

Applications are open for January–June 2027 Residencies.
This world-class residency offers artists dedicated time and space to create, alongside opportunities to connect with a cohort of international creative peers. Residents can optionally participate in open studios, artist presentations, and studio visits with curators.

Eligibility & Strict Constraints:
- Who: Artists from around the world at all career stages and income levels. Must be 18+. Groups and collectives may apply for joint projects.
- Discipline Restrictions: Applications from dancers, musicians, and performers are discouraged (studios are not soundproofed and lack movement space).
- Material Restrictions: The studios only have light-duty ventilation, so art practices generating strong fumes cannot be accommodated.
Program Benefits & Awards (All Residents):
- Workspace: Private, furnished studio space available 24/7.
- Accommodation: A private bedroom (queen bed) with a shared kitchen and bath in attractive apartments directly across the street from the museum.

Application Fee & Program Costs:
Applying is completely free, but participating in the residency requires a weekly fee unless you are awarded a fully funded fellowship.
1. The Cost to Attend (Without a Fellowship):
- General Application: You pay $0 to $450 per week (sliding scale based on financial need). Deadline: May 1, 2026.
- Early Application: You pay $650 per week (designed for artists paying out of pocket or with outside grant money; no financial aid available). Deadlines: Feb 1 and Aug 1.
- Alumni Application: Returning alumni pay $400 to $450 per week.
2. Fully Funded Fellowships ($0 Cost to Attend):
- University Fellowships: Fully funded residencies (2 to 4 weeks) are available for qualifying current students or recent MFA/BFA alumni from specific partner institutions: Bard College, Boston University, Brooklyn College, Brown University, Corcoran School of Art & Design, MassArt, Maine College of Art and Design, RISD, SAIC, and UT Austin. (Check website for specific qualifying graduation years).
- General Fellowship (All Disciplines): Fully funds up to 4 weeks. Open to anyone. Apply simply by checking the fellowship box on the General Application.
- Puerto Rico Artist Fellowship: Fully subsidized 4-week residency + $800 travel stipend + $100/week food stipend for artists currently living in Puerto Rico. (Requires a separate application).
