Short Description

In pursuit of its mission to present, preserve, interpret, educate and advocate on behalf of avant-garde art, especially forms that may be vulnerable due to institutional neglect, cultural bias, their ephemeral nature, or politically unpopular content, Franklin Furnace has since 2023 offered the annual XENO Prizes for Performance Art and Artists’ Books, named in honor of xenophiles, people who appreciate all people and cultures.

Eligibility

  • Open to independent artists living in the United States.
  • Artists of all disciplines are welcome to apply.
  • Applicants must be 18 years old or over, students are eligible.

Program Benefits & Awards

  • Upon the public announcement, recipient will receive $2500 as well as organizational support from Franklin Furnace.
  • The remaining $2500 will be paid when the artist completes 100 copies of the artists’ book, ideally by the end of April, 2026. Franklin Furnace will keep ten copies of the artists’ book in its Artists’ Books Collection, which is free and available to the public.
