The call is organised by Collective Gallery (Edinburgh, Scotland), a well-established public contemporary art gallery and charity. Collective Develops and presents contemporary visual art, supports artists through exhibition, public programmes and professional development. Their “Time + Space” programme is a newly framed open programme targeting early-career visual artists (in Scotland) and sits at the core of Collective’s mission to nurture emerging practice.

Time + Space 2026 – Exhibition Opportunities (Group & Solo)
Time + Space is a development and exhibition opportunity for early-career visual artists. It offers two distinct routes: (1) a Group Exhibition Opportunity, an 11-month programme culminating in a group show of up to four artists; and (2) a Solo Exhibition Opportunity, an 8- to 9-month mentorship and development route for one artist leading to a solo presentation. The programme is designed to support the creation of new work, offer peer learning and professional development, and engage the selected artist(s) in making and presenting work within Collective’s gallery context.

Eligibility:

  • Artists who can demonstrate a commitment to visual arts practice over a minimum of two years (Group route) or three years (Solo route) outside formal undergraduate/postgraduate study.
  • Applicants must have been resident in Scotland for at least one year and be based in Scotland for the duration of the programme.
  • For the Group route: It is designed for artists who have not yet participated in an equivalent early-career development programme or been in a publicly funded gallery group show.
  • For the Solo route: Intended for an artist who has not yet had an invited solo exhibition in a publicly-funded gallery.
  • Applicants must not currently be represented by a commercial gallery, or be engaged in another development programme, or a formal U/G or P/G study during the programme period.

  • Production and presentation of new work culminating in a significant exhibition (group show for up to 4 artists, or solo show for one artist).

  • Support for accessibility of application: a small fund is available for applicants with disabilities or caring responsibilities (to help with proof‐reading, BSL interpreters, cand hildcare) to ensure the application process is inclusive.
