The Transatlantic Stars Project is a transatlantic cultural initiative connecting artists from the European Union with U.S.-based artists, communities, and residency organizations. The project is presented through the EU Delegation to the United States and its partner residency sites across the U.S. The Visual Arts Program is designed to encourage international artistic exchange, collaboration, community engagement, and the development of new work through immersive residencies.

Transatlantic Stars Visual Arts Program 2027
The Transatlantic Stars Visual Arts Program 2027 offers selected mid-career and established visual artists from EU Member States an eight-week residency in the United States during April–early June 2027. Six U.S. residency programs will host the selected artists in diverse environments, ranging from an Alaskan fishing community and an Oregon ecological site to an urban arts hub in the South, a Midwestern prairie town, a ranch in the American West, and a wooded studio near New Orleans.
Artists will work within their host communities and collaborate with a U.S.-based artist or creative practitioner. The residency concludes with a two-day gathering in Washington, D.C., where participants will present their work and process at a public summit and exhibition.

Eligibility
The opportunity is open to citizens of all 27 EU Member States with a valid passport. Citizens of EU candidate countries are not eligible.
Applicants must:
- Be mid-career or established visual artists.
- Have English proficiency, both spoken and written.
- Be available to travel to the U.S. from approximately mid-April through early June 2027.
- Confirm that they have no criminal background.
- Demonstrate professional standing by meeting at least four of five criteria: critical recognition, media coverage, previous residency experience, professional exhibitions/presentations, and meaningful community engagement.
- Submit 5–7 work samples.

Each artist pair must create at least one physical work for exhibition in Washington, D.C. Selected works may subsequently be loaned to the program for up to one year of public display. Additional exhibition opportunities in Washington, D.C. or elsewhere in the U.S. may also be offered.

Additional Details
Only the selected applicant can participate in the residency; managers or existing collaborators cannot accompany the artist as additional participants. The host residency will facilitate the connection with a U.S.-based collaborator, with the pairing determined according to the individual residency program and artistic compatibility.
Digital artists may apply if their work results in a physical, space-based presentation, such as projection mapping onto a specific surface. The program specifically requires a physical work that can be exhibited.
The selection process includes an eligibility screening, shortlist assessment, jury evaluation, and interviews with finalists. A jury composed of European and American visual arts experts will make final recommendations.
