Short Description:
The 44th Uppsala Short Film Festival is calling for short films of all genres with a running time of no more than 40 minutes.
Uppsala Short Film Festival is recognized by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which means that winning the international or national competition at the festival may qualify a film for Oscar consideration. The festival is also recognized by the European Film Academy and BAFTA. Screening at the festival qualifies Swedish short films for Guldbagge nominations.
Films are submitted to either of the three competitive sections, awarding prize money amounting to more than 20,000 Euro.
The 2025 Festival includes the following competitive sections:
- National Competition
- Children’s Film Competition
- International Competition

Program Benefits or Awards:
The following prizes will be awarded in the International Competition:
- The Uppsala Grand Prix (Uppsala Film Jackdaw and 50,000 SEK) The award goes to the director of the best film in the International Competition. The festival is recognised by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and the winner of the Uppsala Grand Prix may qualify for consideration in the short films’ Oscar® categories
- The Uppsala Award in Memory of Ingmar Bergman (50,000 SEK awarded by the Cultural Affairs Board in Uppsala) The award goes to a young and promising director who pushes the boundaries of film art
- The Uppsala Short Film Candidate for the European Film Awards
- The Audience Award
In addition, multiple prizes will be awarded in the other two competitive sections.

- 15 Euro – Regular (30 April 2025)
- 20 Euro – Late (31 May 2025)
- Children’s Film Competition
- 5 Euro – Until 31 May 2025
