Short Description
VHDG Connect is our new annual program that focuses on supporting, mentoring and the development of emerging artists. In 2025, several trajectories will be started for various (starting) artists based in the north of the Netherlands (Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe), with the aim of discovering new networks for exchange, growth, inspiration and support.
With VHDG Connect, we want to connect current projects and processes, such as Club VHDG. In this way, artists can commit themselves for a shorter period of time through a residency, and participate in the Club in the longer term. We would like to invite you to join the Club!
Format
The programme consists of two parts: individual development within the period of one month of residency, and an additional programme of activities and public events. Participation in this additional program is optional.
Eligibility
The program is suitable for both studio-based and embedded practices and is open to both Dutch-speaking and English-speaking artists. We see this program as a possible start of future collaborations.
Submission Requirements
- An artist statement/explanation of your work: what do you make, what drives you and what inspires you? (max 200 words)
- What do you want to do/develop during the residency period? (max 200 words)
- Why does this program come at a good time for your development as an artist? (max 150 words)
- A link to your website or a current portfolio in PDF (max 20 pages, max 300 MB) with an overview of your work of the past 4 years
- A CV in PDF (max 2 pages)
- Would you like to become a member of Club VHDG afterwards? Only if your answer is yes: briefly explain why (max 50 words)

Program Benefits & Awards
This programme offers space and support within a specific period for artists to further develop their practice, research and reflection. In 2025, two artists can apply for a residency period of one month, during which they will have a place to live and work and come into contact with others. Support is provided in the form of:
- A physical living and working space, equipped with internet, heating, electricity, a kitchen, and a shared bathroom, located in the city center of Leeuwarden, where the residence takes place. There is also the possibility of cooperation with local initiatives and workshops, such as the Grafisch Atelier Friesland.
- Support of the VHDG team throughout the entire process in the form of periodic one-on-one sessions, communal meals, organised group moments, and a peer buddy system with members of Club VHDG.
- Access to VHDG’s network: the team, external curators, artists, partners, and the wider community in Leeuwarden, the North, and nationally.
- Financial support in the form of a subsistence allowance of €2250 excl. VAT, a material cost budget of €1000, and any travel allowance.
