VisArts is a non-profit arts center located in Rockville, Maryland, dedicated to transforming individuals and communities through the visual arts. Their annual NextGen exhibition serves as a launchpad for aspiring artists, offering a professional platform for those who are just beginning their careers.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for NextGen 13.0.

This is a free, annual exhibition designed to spotlight new and developing voices in the visual arts. The opportunity is specifically geared toward young artists who have little or no prior exhibition experience.

Selected artists will have their work exhibited in the Gibbs Street Gallery for six weeks. Beyond the exhibition, the program places a strong emphasis on education and growth; participants will engage in artist talks, peer conversations, critiques, and professional development sessions with local curators and arts administrators.

The exhibition kicks off with an opening reception on March 27th at 7 PM.

Eligibility:

  • Age: Artists ages 17–27.

  • Geography: Must be residents of Washington DC, Maryland, or Virginia (DMV area).

  • Experience: Geared toward those with limited exhibition history.

  • Restrictions: Artists who have previously participated in NextGen are not eligible (past applicants who were not selected are encouraged to reapply).
