Organizer Information:

Works & Process champions performing artists and their creative process from studio to stage. Expanding from their pandemic "bubble residency" program, they now utilize a network of over a dozen partner venues across five states (CT, MA, NJ, NY, VT) to support the incubation of new and developing performances.

Title & Description:

Applications are opening for the 2026 Works & Process Residency Program.

This program invites New York City-based dance artists and dance companies to apply for week-long, out-of-town residencies. Residencies may be used to start a new project or continue developing an existing work. Each residency culminates in an open rehearsal or showing for the local community, with the potential for the project to be presented by Works & Process in NYC.

Eligibility:

  • Discipline: Professional artists working in all dance styles and forms (especially those identifying as community leaders/tradition bearers, and those practicing street, club, cultural, percussive, rhythmic, or social dance styles).
  • Strict Geographic Constraint: All participating artists must live in the five boroughs of New York City. The lead artist must have a history of at least 5 years of performing activity in the NYC metropolitan area.
  • Citizenship: All participating artists must be U.S. citizens or legal residents who can be paid for work.
  • Company Size: Support is provided for companies of 8 (or fewer) artists.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Financial Support: An industry-leading fee of $175 per day ($1,225 per week) per artist, plus a travel stipend. (If presented in NYC, artists receive $450 per performance).
  • Health Care: Health insurance enrollment access.
  • Workspace & Accommodation: 24/7 studio access and on-site housing for the 7-day residency at one of their partner venues across the East Coast.

(Note: The portal will close early if the submission limit of 300 applications is reached, so apply quickly!).

  • Notification of Results: June 30, 2026.
  • Residency Dates: A 7-day period scheduled between October 2026 – May 2027.
