The World Habitat Awards are managed by World Habitat, in partnership with UN-Habitat, and have been recognizing outstanding housing projects globally since 1985. The initiative celebrates innovative and sustainable approaches to housing that improve living conditions, promote social inclusion, and address environmental challenges. Over the decades, World Habitat has become an internationally respected platform for sharing best practices and fostering collaboration among housing practitioners, policymakers, and communities worldwide. The Awards aim not only to honor excellence but also to amplify successful projects, providing them with long-term support and networking opportunities.

World Habitat Awards 2026 | Open Call for Innovative Housing Projects
The World Habitat Awards 2026 invite submissions from pioneering housing projects and programmes worldwide. This competition highlights initiatives that deliver practical solutions to affordable and sustainable housing challenges while actively promoting community engagement, diversity, and climate-responsive design.
Winning projects are recognized for their innovation, impact, and potential for replication. Gold Award recipients receive £10,000 in prize money, a trophy, in-person recognition at an international housing event, and ongoing collaboration and networking support from World Habitat. Silver and Bronze Award winners gain extensive year-long support, public visibility, and membership in the World Habitat Awards Network.
The awards seek projects that go beyond design and planning, focusing on those already implemented or actively in progress, with measurable outcomes and meaningful engagement with residents and local communities.

Eligibility
Applicants from around the world are welcome. Projects must:
- Focus on affordable and adequate housing solutions
- Address climate emergency concerns
- Currently in progress or completed within the last ten years
- Promote diversity, equality, and inclusion
- Be collaboratively designed or delivered with residents and the local community
Exclusions:
- Projects in the design, prototype, or planning stage
- Projects completed over ten years ago
- The awards do not provide project funding

Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- Project details (description, objectives, and implementation)
- Evidence of community engagement and a participatory approach
- Demonstration of innovation, sustainability, and social impact
- Verification of project completion or progress within the last ten years
