The World Habitat Awards recognize exceptional housing projects that contribute to improving the lives of people in need of affordable and adequate housing. Every year, innovative housing solutions from around the world are evaluated, with the top projects receiving Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards. The competition is organized by World Habitat in partnership with UN-Habitat.
Information & Application Details:
- Entry Period: 8 January 2025 – 3 March 2025

- Required Information: Project contact details, project description, impact assessments, evidence (e.g., reports, photographs), and answers to a series of questions related to the project’s innovation, funding, impact, and sustainability.
Eligibility:
- Open to projects worldwide that focus on affordable and adequate housing, have taken action on climate change, are in progress or completed in the last 10 years, and promote diversity, equality, and inclusion.
- Projects must be designed and/or delivered in collaboration with the local community.
- Design/prototype/planning stage or projects completed more than 10 years ago are not eligible.
Theme:
- Projects that address housing needs, with a particular emphasis on affordable housing solutions, climate change action, and promoting social inclusion.
How to Apply:
- Complete the Online Submission Form with required details, including contact info, project summary, and evidence of impact.
- Provide answers to key questions about the project’s innovation, impact, sustainability, and future plans.
- Upload supporting evidence, such as reports, photos, and other relevant documentation.
Submission Requirements:
- Basic Project Information: Name, location, start date, and impact metrics (e.g., homes built, people housed).
- Detailed Questions: Including why the project exists, its innovative aspects, funding details, community involvement, and its environmental impact.
- Supporting Documents: Impact assessments, evaluations, case studies, and up to 10 photos (max 10MB each).
Selection Process:
- Shortlisting: Initial evaluation of entries based on innovation, impact, environmental sustainability, and transferability.
- Advisory Group Review: A panel of housing experts reviews the shortlisted projects and recommends up to 4 for further evaluation.
- Evaluation Visits: A visit to 4 selected projects to gain an in-depth understanding of their work.
- Final Judging: The final decision on winners is made by a panel including the Executive Director of UN-Habitat.
